That Distant Shore
When I reached that distant shore, nothing was as it was before
The troubles of my recent past; are gone because they could not last
In this land that is new to me, everything is goodness beyond the rolling sea
The land is fresh and oh so clean, it’s like I’m walking in an Idyllic dream
Green meadows cut by a flowing brook, a place to stop and read a book
A path to walk over rolling hills, all dressed in flowers and ancient mills
* * * *
When I reached that distant shore, nothing was as it was before
My worn out body broken and bent, is renewed when I was heavenly sent
How can this be a land for me, a wretched man sailing on an aimless sea?
What have I done to earn this place, in spite of my being a fallen disgrace?
Saved one day from a watery grave, I took my life and gave it away
* * * *
When I reached that distant shore, nothing was as it was before
There’s a grand mansion on a mountaintop; it’s a place where I’d like to stop
It’s located on a great and lordly space; it’s filled with love and is full of God’s grace
This land is filled with many a familiar face; that forms a chorus of every race
Their faces glow with a kindly light; all together they form a heavenly sight
* * * *
When I reached that distant shore, nothing was as it was before
There’s no discord and there’s no war, when you reach that distant shore
Love rules this pastoral scene, it a land of a heavenly dream
Pain no longer in the scheme; resentment has no place and is never a theme
Cattle on a thousand hills, fields of grain and wind driven mills
A city of God on a distant shore beckons to me with an open door
* * * *
When I reached that distant shore, nothing was as it was before
The road before me is long and straight, so I entered through that golden gate
I see a stranger waiting for me, just beyond the crystal sea
“Come along and have no fear, I’ve waited for you for many a year!”
“We’ve followed your life when you walked on the earth, we all rejoiced at your second birth!”
“You’ve come to us to take your place; God gave you his love and now he gives you his grace!”
When I reached that distant shore, nothing was as it was before
